How to Break Away from a Career You Hate
It’s tough when you feel stuck in a career you no longer like. I have been there and hating your career can cause problems in almost every area of your life. You see, if you hate your career, chances are you let it effect everything else you do in life even if you don’t realize it.
Most people who hate their careers are usually stressed out from being overworked. The stress effects home life and social life. Being stressed out causes tension at home which leads to lack of family time. It can put a damper on your social life because you have no desire to have fun and when you do try, all you can do is think about work.
You could get another job but will that really resolve the issue of a lousy career? Probably not. I have tried that myself and everything I disliked about the job I had would have been present in the new job I was offered. At the time, it seemed like my escape but when I stepped back and really thought about it, I was just trading one job for another.
A better way of escape is to transition from working for a boss to working for yourself. The easiest way to do this is to begin freelancing part-time. If you have a skill that you can also do as a freelancer, you can begin building your business in your spare time. When you feel comfortable enough to do so, you can quit your job and work for yourself.
The problem with freelancing (doing the same job that you were trying to escape from) is that you are still in a career you dislike. The only bright spot is that you no longer have a boss telling you what to do. For some people, that is enough for them. For others, it is still equivalent to trading one job for another.
If you want to change careers by starting your own business but don’t want the hassle of expensive business start-up costs, network marketing is often a great solution. You can often find a company that offers products or services that you like. The investment is extremely low compared to other types of businesses and you can start it part-time.
Breaking away from a career you hate requires asking yourself what it is you truly want to do. Your options can include freelancing, consulting, or starting your own business in your spare time.
